i’m like so sick of hearing about same-sex marriage lmao where’s the high-profile documentaries on the homeless queer youth community in most cities of america? how about the ones documenting the heightened cases of drug abuse in these communities? the physical, emotional, and sexual abuse many of these youths are facing? and the mental illness & drug abuse this leads to? what about a national awareness of how all of these things disproportionately affect transwomen of color ? but nah……keep talking about some dumbass marriage equality that still isn’t even recognized by over half of the country & that was turned into a prop used by Big Business™ to capitalize off of our community & has effectively been used to silence our outcries because we can at least get married in 19 out of 50 states now :) and growing! :) which really only means something if you’re able to make it to adulthood considering many queer youths consider/attempt/succeed at committing suicide
I bet you can tell I’m a woman,” she said, “and I suspect the rest of the world can, too.”
She said she was all too aware that if she was selected, she would represent several hundred male athletes in the NBA; she would deal with league officials and agents who were nearly all men; she would negotiate with team owners who were almost all men; and she would stand before reporters who were predominantly men.
She did not flinch. “My past,” she told the room, “is littered with the bones of men who were foolish enough to think I was someone they could sleep on."
